An Initial Study and Mitigated Negative Declaration was prepared for a transload facility proposed by Union Pacific Railroad. The facility was proposed on a 30-acre portion of an approximately 54 acre site parallel to the Union Pacific Main Line in unincorporated Imperial County.
The project was proposed to allow commodities to be brought in by rail, unloaded to a holding area by forklift, and transferred and transported off-site by truck. It also allows for reverse movement where commodities come in by truck and go out by rail. The project did not propose any structures or lighting; the site would be covered aggregate base and asphalt concrete millings. Two points of access were proposed.
EGI prepared the Initial Study and MND, worked closely with County Staff and the Applicant team, and participated in presenting the project to the County’s Environmental Evaluation Committee.
